A broken bone + A Giveaway with Freshly Picked to cheer us up

This morning, the boys and I headed outside for some fresh air and a game of who-can-find-the-longest-branch. Aside from his ace bandage, you probably would never guess that Job is the proud new owner of a broken collarbone! Also, his green suede moccasins with his adorable boyish smile about steal the show, right?

Last night, we made our first emergency room trip with Job. In all honesty, we knew this would come sooner than later with our loving-life-at-full-speed-ahead Jobie-boy. He was playing with Graeme downstairs and decided to jump off the couch, where his right shoulder and collarbone met the hardwood floor. (sad, sad, sad) His pitiful cry every time he lifted his right arm to a certain height let us know something was definitely wrong. I was pretty sure it was a broken collarbone as he would point directly to it when he started to cry. But, we also wanted to make sure nothing else had been fractured or sprained. And so, off to the hospital we went.

A few hours and x-rays later, we were told what we had suspected-- that Job had a broken collarbone. He was fitted with a, sadly, way-too-big Snoopy sling and we made our way back home, tucking him into bed a little past 10p.m. (They told us they aren't used to seeing such little guys on the account of broken collarbones. Woops!) Job has done incredibly well with his broken collarbone. (He fell in love with the Snoopy sling, so even though it doesn't seem to be helping at all, we put it back on him this afternoon along with the ace bandage.) We are so proud of him and thankful that he was able to rest last night, even though we know he was uncomfortable.

p.s. About that Freshly Picked giveaway! Moccasins are a win-win in our book, unlike our trip to the emergency room last night! I don't think we, as a family, have ever met a pair of moccasins that we didn't like but I want to tell you the biggest reasons why we're fans of Freshly Picked moccasins in particular. First of all, and most important in my estimation, they stay on Job's feet. They're slip ons versus ties. So there's that. Also, the elastic design, hidden by the eye-catching leather/suede fringe keeps the moccasins snugly attached to your little one's feet. Also, Freshly Picked offers so many different color options. And I love that! Maybe the best part, though? A Cranny + Me reader can win their own pair, many thanks to the kindness of Freshly Picked! Enter below and a winner will be selected on Thursday. Happy Monday and happy entering! (Giveaway open to US residents only. Thank you!)

p.s.s No jokes allowed about my ace bandage wrapping skills. Or you'll be in trouble, along with my husband! (smile)

  13. Poor boy :(. I broke both my collar bones when I was 12 and know how uncomfortable that can be. Kids are so reselient, though. I've been eyeing the freshly picked mocs for months. I would get a pair for my little guy, probably ox blood but I always tend to change my mind. The green is too cute.

  15. What a tough little guy. Growing up with 3 brothers it seemed like someone always had a broken bone, deep cut + stitches, or infection.... boys will be boys.

I've really been tempted to get a pair of mocs for Baby O (set to arrive any time now). Just love the FP gold mocs for her.

Thanks for the giveaway and hope your little Job has fast healing.

  20. The prince george blue ones are my favorite. I would want them in a size ten. Bless that poor baby's heart! I hate to see a broken baby! I hope he heals fast and never breaks another bone again. It hurts my heart to see bandaged babies. :(

  24. Poor little guy! And, poor Mommy and Daddy. So sorry. That is so painful. You'll be amazed, though, at his recovery. When Jordan broke his (at about the same age), his healed up so very quickly.

  25. I would choose Swimmin' with the Sharks for my cutie. I love that they have elastic... my baby is quite the chunk and without the elastic, I don't think they would stay on his cankles. ;o)

And, it's not an exciting color to most, but to me that weathered brown is just perfect for my St George.

  38. Poor little guy! This happened to my daughter when she was two. fell off the couch! Our first Emergency room visit too! I don't know if that's his only bandage/sling, but they do make a brace for little ones that size...kind of looks like a backwards bra! But it holds the shoulder's in place and gives them a little more flexibility. Ask around...it really was great and she didn't notice it all. Good news is, is that they heal in a few weeks!

  39. Sarah, did you get my email about your visit?
