Our weekend overflowed with wonderful things. Finding out that I won a beautiful giveaway on a friend's blog, a housewarming shower for a friend, a thrilling find at the thrift store, a visit with friends from seminary days + an apple fritter from Voodoo, Edna Mae's Sour Cream Pancakes from the Pioneer Woman's cookbook, and an entertaining day with the toddlers at our church
( plus taking pictures of them for Father's Day with sombrero hats and smiling wide at the out-takes! ) to name a few.
Originally, I planned on sharing a paper pinwheel tutorial with you today, but I've saved that for later. Because, when we arrived at the International Rose Test Garden last evening, I knew I'd be sharing these pictures with you instead. The light! Oh the light! It made this space literally glow. Well, that and a dusk filter, set at seventy percent fade. ( smile ) See, I do like editing here and there!
Something that I have realized over the last several months is to enjoy to the fullest the opportunities to do what I love and realize when I need to step back. Two events brought this lesson "home" to me: Nate + Katie's wedding and last evening at the Rose Garden. In both instances, I could have taken pictures for hours, but two little boys would have been very sad that their mama was missing in action. I think this change has helped me to record more moments in my mind and heart and also to strategize more with mister Nikon. And by strategize, I mean thinking before I snap so that I end up with a handful of loved pictures instead of four hundred "maybes". Does that make sense? Long story short, my mind and heart took a lot of pictures last evening.
I'm so thankful for the little things and big things ( and lessons! ) of life. I hope your weekend was just as happy as ours!

These are beautiful, Sarah! I am in love with the light at that time of evening, too. I agree with you about balancing taking photos vs. really being there in the moment. I want my boys to remember our fun memories; not just remember me with a big, black camera in front of my face!
ReplyDeleteOh, I know, I could've stayed for another hour easily to soak up that beautiful dusky light. Sunday evenings are so difficult for our boys-- usually both have missed a nap and are hungry too-- but it was such a beautiful evening and I think they did indeed enjoy being in the garden and great outdoors :) Well, let's be honest, Graeme loved the rocks more than anything :)

ReplyDeleteLovely photos! One of these days I'm going to have to get me a fancy camera, so I can take gorgeous photos too, but my phone and instagram will have to suffice for now...lol. You mentioned Voodoo....you must be from Portland, OR, right? I just heard about that place this week from another blogger I follow that happened to be there.
